Imperialism in India

In Teacher: Coleman, Topic: Political on March 13, 2011 at 5:45 pm

Website created on imperialism in India, and shows the key points in imperial India from 1498-1947. The website has seven main topics on India: Imperialism in India: 1498-1740, British vs. France: 1740-1761, Sepoy Rebellion: 1857-1859, The British Take Control: 1859-1885, Beginnings of Indian Nationalism: 1885-1919, and The End of The Empire: 1919-1947. The information is clearly lad out on the website and it only focuses on key details within the information; making for short and easy reading. This site would benefit the Political topic and have no use to people researching the Economic topic; due to the lack of mentioning of any economic gain or change by Britain or India.

Imperialism

In Teacher: Coleman, Topic: Economic, Unit 7: Imperialism on March 13, 2011 at 5:44 pm

This is a book called, Imperialism: a Study, by the author John Atkinson Hobson. The date published is 1902, meaning this could be used as a primary source; since the age of imperialism lasted to 1914.  This can be found online at Google Books (URL Below) and there is complete access to all pages in the online book. If one would adventure into it, they would find maps and tables. These implements would further one’s understanding of the texts. To continue, the author goes into detail about the economic and some political factors behind imperialism at the time. The chapters are set up on one topic pertaining to imperialism;  persons can use one chapter or more if necessary for the desired information on their topic. The book ways more on the pro-imperialism side of the scale, yet it does have some sympathy for the “savage” people. I recommend this book for anyone that is researching the economic topic. Pages:  390 Chapters: 17 note: both the website and book bibliographies are below.

The Enlightenment

In Teacher: Coleman, Topic: Economic, Topic: Political, Unit 1: Enlightenment on March 11, 2011 at 3:08 pm

From the Union County College website. Explains the people behind the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment. These people would be: Thomas Hobbs, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Voltaire. Also, it gives an in-general list of constitutional and democratic thoughts during this time and it explains the Enlightenment in fair detail. At the bottom of the website it gives helpful links to other resources and materials. I would use this website as a start/jump off point for further research into the Age of Enlightenment. This site would be the best for the Political topic and slightly recommended for the Economic topic.
